Role Responsibilities

To successfully carry out this role, the key responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Control all of site expenditure by managing the day to day works with cost control, monitoring and reporting
  • Reconcile site costs/value reports and profit forecasts,
  • Assist the Site/Contract Managers with planning and programming,
  • Assist with Sub contractor selection and ensure the chosen subcontractor is suitable and capable to deliver the works in a timely manner.  Place the appropriate PO and all required information/job pack to carry out the work,
  • Sub-contract procurement and commercial management,
  • Manage and control subcontractor accounts and issue their variation orders,
  • Lead and liase with our purchasing team to maximise profits at all times,
  • Advise on a procurement strategy,
  • Price/build up scope of works/job pack ready for work on site,
  • Attend project and company related meetings,
  • Prepare and analysis costings for tenders/quotations,
  • Prepare tender and contract documents, including bill of quantities with the architect/project manager and/or customer,
  • Measure progress, submit valuations, submit final accounts and retention release,
  • Arrange for valuations, final accounts and retention release to be invoiced in a timely manner,
  • Assist in establishing a customers requirements and undertake feasibility studies,
  • Undertake cost analysis exercises and review against quotation/tender,
  • Analysis outcomes and prepare detailed reports,
  • Identify, analyse and develop responses to commercial risks,
  • Maintain awareness of the different building contracts in current use,
  • Provide advice on contractual claims,
  • Understand the implications of Health and Safety regulations and laws in our sector,
  • Be responsible for the development and training of trainee/assistant quantity surveyor/s,
  • Be a team player with a can do attitude, outgoing, polite, energetic, patient, eager, diplomatic, personable, respectful and flexible.


Person Specification

These are the skills you will need to have:

  • a degree or similar technical qualification within Quantity Surveying,
  • A good technical background in construction as well as strong commercial and contractual knowledge is essential,
  • Industry experience in the role of a Quantity Surveyor, preferably managing own projects rather than as part of a larger team,
  • a practical and logical mind with a methodical way of thinking and organising,
  • a creative and innovate approach to problem solving,
  • strong numeracy and financial management skills and the ability to use IT packages to a high level of knowledge,
  • the ability to write clear and precise reports and relate complex information in a simple way for a diverse range of people,
  • negotiation and team work skills and the ability to motivate and lead,
  • detailed knowledge of past and current construction technology, processes and materials,
  • flexible with regard to working across all areas of the company and hours to meet the requirements of this challenging, new and rewarding position,
  • using strong selling, negotiation and influencing skills when dealing with Customers and Suppliers to ensure long lasting working relationships with KELRAY,
  • Full UK driving license is essential.
